Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced special initiative of this IT Board to promote Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. For this purpose a bill for setting up the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board was approved by the Provincial Cabinet and subsequently passed as an Act by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Earlier there had been no
official support for the call centers and software houses in Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. Most of the talent in the ICT field joined the software houses and
IT enabled services at Islamabad and in other Provinces. Concerns had often
been raised about the IT graduates from Universities who had little
professional opportunities once they were out of the Universities. While
hundreds of thousands of skilled workers send back billions in Foreign
exchange, the potential in high Tech jobs such as ICT had not been tapped
before in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
